The Southern Ocean separates continental Antarctica from the rest of the world. It is home to the westerly winds personified as the 'roaring forties' and 'furious fifties', producing huge waves swathed in spray. Albatross ride the winds and entrance travellers with their grace. The Southern Ocean is also home to massive icebergs, as well as annual sea ice which may trap the unwary sailor. Hedgehog Hous ephotographers have captured some of the ocean's moods.
