During the post-monsoon season Betty and Colin Monteath together with their
photo librarian Jim Harding and seven other friends completed a 400 km trek in northern Bhutan.
Using horses and yak caravans to carry baggage, 11 high passes were crossed near the
spectacular peaks on the Bhutan/Tibet border. Remote villages in the Laya and Lunana
districts were visited at a time when the barley harvest was in full swing. Bhutan's
stunning forests, wildlife and mountains were a real highlight of this adventure.
In association with TENZING'S HIMALAYAN TRAVEL CENTRE (tenzing@himlayantravel.com.au)
in Sydney, the ten person party attended the final day of the Thimpu Teschu festival
before commencing the trek. Colourful imagery was obtained of this vibrant, spiritual
day of religious dance.
Ideal for travel or geographical magazines, a selection of pictures to illustrate a
4000 word essay describing this journey will be supplied by Hedgehog House upon request.
